First, we wanted to embrace the clients love of Art-Deco and infuse their own quirky, bold taste into the space. Second, they have an extensive collection of Italian and Czech Glassware and German Pottery, so the bright colours and bold shapes were to be displayed somewhere in the space – and played into the idea of a bold, colourful aesthetic. Our intention was to ‘splice’ the existing cottage, opening the existing dining room up to the addition and joining the two with the long, pink terrazzo topped island bench/dining table. The rear of the addition would bring this Art-Deco vibe into a slightly tropical backyard, creating a unique little oasis in the suburbs.
