Sited on a suburban block running east-west, the house wraps an oversized courtyard, maximising sun and light access from the north. Passively designed, using reverse brick veneer, natural ventilation and low VOC materials throughout. Our intention was to be functional and rational in program but beautiful in form, to create a space for connection and openness, to bring the outside in, and to create an honest structure. Nothing over the top or excessive, affordable but quality construction. Warm and earthy. A few curves, some layering, playfulness, a distinct character, but also a certain timelessness and restraint.
